Gift Giving Tips
Loved gifts increase the relationship level by +80, liked gifts increase it by +45 and neutral gifts (not covered in this article) increase it by +20.
- Quality Matters: Prioritize gifts with higher quality, an Iridium quality gift gives a 50% bonus (Silver is 10% and Gold is 25%).
- Talk to Villagers Everyday: Until a villager's heart meter is full, your relationships decay every day you don't talk to someone.
- Remember Birthdays: Birthdays give 8x value of whatever the gift would be and gifts can be given on someone's birthday even if you've already given them two gifts that week. The Winter Star event gives a 5x bonus.
- Giving Two Gifts Gives a Bonus: It's a small bonus but you do get an extra +10 to a villager's friendship (effectively cancelling out not talking to them the rest of the week).
- Friendship Goes Beyond Maximums: This is particularly useful for marriage candidates but your friendship level doesn't stop at maximum, continue to interact with and give presents to the people you plan to date and/or marry -- once you unlock the higher levels of the heart meter, it will automatically adjust (it's possible to get to 14 hearts immediately after you're married if your score is high enough).

Recommended Gifts
Some gifts are liked or loved by virtually all Villagers are referred to as Universal Loves and Universal Likes.
Daffodil is a great gift during your first Spring. Amethyst and Diamond are generally speaking a very good gift; I strongly recommend saving a few of them and use a few Crystalarium to give yourself a constant supply of gems for gift giving -- both of these gems are loved by a lot of villagers.
Universal Loves -- The only Universal Love that is reliably farmable is the Rabbit's Foot so it may be worth upgraded a Coop and investing in some Rabbits for the purpose of gift giving:
- Golden Pumpkin
- Magic Rock Candy
- Pearl
- Prismatic Shard (except Haley)
- Rabbit's Foot (except Penny)
Universal Likes -- There are a ton of exceptions to likes, so you'll have to read the wiki or figure it out through trial and error:
- All Gems
- All Foraged Materials (not food)
- All Flowers and Fruit from Fruit Trees... Most Vegetables
- Most Artisan Goods (except Oil and Void Mayonnaise)
- Cooked Food (except Bread, Fried Egg, and a few others)
